Caring for animals can be a wonderful career that is both rewarding and can provide for a good income. However, one must learn the proper channels on how to become a veterinary technician and getting the proper training and qualifications to earn a veterinary technician certification. Typically, veterinary technician education is a two-year program, earned from an accredited community college. Classrooms are actually laboratories that use live animals. At present time, there are approximately 20 colleges that provide this training and certification. This training is also provided through distance learning to help those get the training they need and still keep up with personal responsibilities.
The veterinary technician requirements are for students to graduate from an AVMA-accredited program, which will allow them to undergo the exam anywhere in the country, regardless of the state. Education in the field would be greatly helped by taking science, biology and math courses in high school.
Entry-level employment is always under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian. To work in the field, a credentials exam is necessary, provided by the state of residence or study, depending on the situation. The examination is oral, written, and also practical, regulated by the State agency who overseas this practice. Passing scores can be transferred to other states, as long as they use the same examination in those states, usually known as the National Veterinary Technician Exam.

Moreover, there are and will continue to be great job opportunities available to graduates because of the small number of graduates each year, which will fail to meet the demand. Under 4,000 graduates enter the workforce each year, far below the requirements in the field. It is also a safe career choice that is minimally affected by the economy, meaning that layoffs will be much lower than in other fields. No matter what, pet owners love their pets and will always do their best to ensure quality health care and medical attention for them at all times.
